Fertility
Fertility is vibrancy.
God created us as women to bear life. Each month, our cycle prepares us for this by nurturing an egg and creating space for new life. We move through four phases, each bringing its own shifts in energy, motivation, and emotion.
Menstrual: A time of rest, release, and renewal. Often we feel more reflective and inward-focused, an invitation to slow down and honor our bodies.
Follicular: Energy begins to rise. We often feel more creative, motivated, and ready to take on new projects or goals.
Ovulation: Our peak of vibrancy. Many women feel confident, energized, and outward-focused, naturally drawn to connection and community.
Luteal: A gentle winding down. Emotions may feel heightened, and we’re often called to turn inward, nurture ourselves, and prepare for either new life or another cycle of release.
Each phase is beautiful and intentional, reminding us that our bodies were designed with wisdom and purpose.
Our cycle is a reflection of our overall health and our body’s sense of safety. I learned this personally after I had hypothalamic amenorrhea (loss of menstrual cycle). The experience opened my eyes to how important fertility is, not only for pregnancy, but as a vital sign of whole-body health and balance.
Food and Fertility
Here’s a simplified list of foods I focus on day-to-day, inspired by Real Food for Fertility by Lily Nichols and Lisa Hendrickson-Jack. It’s a research packed book that details how certain nutrient-dense foods support fertility and cycle health.
Eggs
Organ meats
Meat on the bone
Fish
Minimally processed, full-fat dairy
Fermented foods
Fruits and vegetables
Electrolytes / high-quality salt
If you want all the science and nutrient breakdowns, I highly recommend reading Real Food for Fertility.
Whenever possible, I choose grass-fed or pasture-raised meats and eggs, and organic produce. I’ve also recently started putting more emphasis on raw milk cheeses and joined a raw goal milk herdshare program here in Colorado.
Lifestyle for Fertility
Sleep: Prioritizing consistent, restorative sleep in a cool, dark room. Getting sunlight in the morning and creating a gentle wind-down routine before bed to support hormone balance.
Stress management: Eating enough, honoring your cycle, and avoiding extremes like over-exercising and under-eating. Fertility thrives in a state of nourishment, not depletion.
Reducing toxins: Simple swaps in household products—like choosing clean cleaning supplies, skincare, lotions, shampoos, and conditioners—help minimize unnecessary stressors on the body.

The Fruit of His Design
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” - John 15:5 (ESV)
As women, when we live in alignment with how He created us, fertility becomes one expression of fruitfulness. Fruit is the evidence of His goodness and fertility is just one example of that.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” - Galatians 5:22-23
This is the vibrant life He calls us to and the very life we were designed for.
