Psalm 41
As for me, I said, "O Lord, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against you!"
Psalm 41:4
This verse pleads for God's grace, asks for His healing, and is a confession of sin. Jesus gives us grace, and one of His gifts is healing. All He asks us to do is confess our sins. There is a connection made between healing and sin in this verse, and in my opinion when we hold onto sin, we are holding onto something that is not good for us, something that causes deep hurt and pain and illness, things that we need to be healed of. It is God's grace that has the ability to heal us. The key here is confessing our sins, telling God that we have sinned, laying out our iniquities before Him, and asking for His grace and His healing power to come upon us.
Something that I often think about is that I haven't done things that are that bad, but then I remember that sin isn't only about our actions, about lying and stealing and cheating. It is about the position of our heart. It is about fearing God and God alone and not having fears of the world. It is about praising Him, doing His will, and being honest and kind and loving. Then I remember that I need to be humbled and that I do have sins. The sin of fearing man and fearing things of this earth is something that I really struggle with and something that I need to work on. There are definitely times when I fear things of this earth more than I fear God, and I know that that is a problem. I am sure that holding onto this fear has caused sickness and illness to come upon me, and so for that I am grateful for God's grace and I pray for His grace to fall upon me.
I also think that this is a beautiful image of Christ and what He does for us. Because of His death, we have salvation. Because of His death, we are forgiven and His grace falls upon us, and He gives us the power of healing. We see so many miracles in the New Testament and so many of them surround Jesus healing people instantly. He is doing the same thing today, and so we must pray to Him, trust in His abilities, and confess our sins.
