Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 23:1, 3, 5-6
Highlighted above are some verses from Psalm 23. This is my absolute favorite Psalm so far. Jesus is Lord of Lords and King of Kings. He is the one that guides us as a shepherd guides sheep. He will provide for us, He will restore our soul and make our path straight. He is the gatekeeper that can open the gate so we may be personal with God. Knowing Jesus allows us to know the Father. We know that our God is a personal God, a God that sets our table for us, a God that welcomes us into His kingdom, a God that pours our cup so it overflows, a God who provides for us abundantly. We know that this is our God. We do not need to want when we have our worth tied in Him. We do not need to want when we realize that He has provided everything that we could ever need and want. Our wants, when we have them, are all fleshly ones. When we recognize that it is finished, that God has already provided for us and that He will overflow our cup, we know that we have everything and more because of what He has done for us.
I think knowing that God provides this way, and knowing that we do not even have a need to want beyond what He has provided, is something that can give us a lot of peace. It calms down the mindset of striving for all of these next steps. It calms down the sense of striving for the next big race, the next big step in life, or the next thing that is coming, and allows us to just take a deep breath, to rest, and to have trust in Him. I think sometimes when I tend to get overwhelmed and caught up in my thoughts, it is because I am trying to take control when it comes to planning and when it comes to wanting and having desires.
If I place my desires and my wants in the Lord and in godly things, I know that He will provide them and I know that He will provide peace over the direction that I am taking. So in the times of wonder and of stress, I must remember that the Lord is my Shepherd and He is the one that makes my table and makes my way. I must trust that He is the Lord of Lords and that He is the King of Kings, and that in His kingdom I plan to dwell forever, so to let Him plan each and every day as well.
